Sunday 16th November 2025
This is a 5 mile Cross Country event in the MABAC Running League series. The senior race is just over 8 km (5 miles) there are also joggers and junior events of about 4 km (2.5 miles). The event is open ONLY to members of the MABAC clubs.
Wisley Common is a new venue for MABAC and is taking place with the agreement of Surrey County Council, which owns the land, and the support of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
To access it, leave the A3 at the first exit after the M25 when heading towards Guildford. This is Ockham Park roundabout (what3words coins.ruins.cakes) and the exit is signposted ‘Ockham, Ripley, Send B2215.’ Please note that if you are coming from the south west (the Guildford direction) there is no access to the roundabout and you should continue to the interchange with the M25 and go round the gyratory to head back down the A3. At the roundabout, take the very first exit, signposted Wisley. Roadworks are currently underway here and the junction can be easily missed. You are now on Wisley Lane. Proceed along this road for 1.4 miles, passing the entrance to the RHS Gardens on your left (note that queues can form here at busy periods), and the signs marking the entrance to Wisley Village. The entrance to the car park (what3words retire.being.belong) is beyond the village on the right. It will be signposted ‘MABAC’ but it is set back from the road and easily missed, so drive carefully! A one way system will operate in the car park, so please follow the marshals’ directions. Toilet facilities will be available but anyone wanting refreshments should head to the cafe and shop at the RHS gardens, which can be accessed without having to enter the gardens themselves. The gates to the run car park will be locked at noon, so if you do wish to use the RHS facilities, you should move your car to the main RHS car park to do so. (As the RHS is generously making their facilities available to us free of charge, doing so would also be a nice gesture of appreciation).

The course is a cross country one, with no steep hills but the surface is a mixture of track, sand and mud, and very uneven and rutted in parts. There is a very short stretch on tarmac (no more than 100 metres) so spikes are not advised. Studs or trail shoes should be ideal.
If any visually impaired runners are considering taking part, they are advised to contact the organiser, Michael Reilly (Pyrford.Puffers@btinternet.com) after 4th November. He will be able to brief them in detail on the terrain and potential hazards to help them reach a decision. Please note that in consideration of the marshals, a 30 minute cut-off will be imposed after the first lap. This should not be a problem for any regular MABAC runners.
